Positivity, ya you know me
Okay, it’s 2020, why do we still suffer from negativity, anxiety, self doubt, etc, the list goes on and on. At this point in time with everything that’s happening I’m sure you’d agree, the list is growing. It’s not even a matter of do you suffer from one of the above but which of the above do you suffer from? It may not be every day or all the time but it happens and we’re human!
Now, we know it happens but what do we do about it when it does? I used to suffer from a lot of negative thinking, anxiety, and self doubt and I still can from time to time but I’ve learned to manage it. I definitely don’t think there’s a one size fits all solution and it absolutely takes time. So first and foremost, what works for me might not work for you and that’s okay! I just want to give ideas to those who are at a loss.
Personally I think we need to begin by giving ourselves a break and by practicing a little patience. I know, I know, it’s a tough one— one I struggle with regularly. But it is important and honestly can help in many departments of our lives.
Even just starting there we’re moving in the right direction, we have to retrain our way of thinking. I recently read a wonderful book by Marie Forleo called Everything is Figureoutable and I recommend it to anyone feeling stuck, less than, overwhelmed or anxious. Marie reminds us all that if we believe in ourselves we can make real magic happen. With this virus going around, I think we could all use this reminder! Our brains are far more powerful than we give them credit for, let’s start using their power to spread some positivity.
They do so much for us so why not try and practice some new habits and nix some old less than beneficial ones. First thinking more positively and reminding ourselves “we got this!”, ‘cause we do! So far you’ve showed up and handled everything life has thrown at you, and that’s a hell of an accomplishment. It may not seem like it when you’re dealing with anxiety and self doubt but sit for a second and remind yourself you’re a badass!
2020 is kicking all our asses and yet you’re here, you’re surviving. It may seem simple and silly but it’s real and it’s no small feat if you ask me. Now here are some practices I have been implementing that have really worked for me recently and over the years. Try a couple out and drop a comment below if any worked for you too!
1) I love reading and always have but, lately I’ve been trying to use this hobby of mine to better myself. I’ve been adding self help books like Marie’s to still take time to enjoy reading but also help train my brain to see the positive and work towards solutions to my problems.
2) Art! I have always been a creative type, clearly with my career, but sometimes I forget how good it feels to just get lost. I turn on music, sometimes I even listen to instrumental music on Spotify to really tune the world out. Then I just put my brush to the canvas and go! You don’t have to be Picasso to enjoy the release that art gives you.
3) CBDs, not a tradition solution by any means, but something that has really done a lot of good for me. I honestly use them for a really wide array of issues, but anxiety is probably the biggest one. I’ve never been a fan of medications and always look for natural alternatives and when i found CBDs it really changed my life. I use tincture and gummies personally but find what works best for you if you decide to give them a try. I will be carrying Winged CBD products very soon from tincture and gummies to skincare products!
4) I also find that relaxing can rest the mind and ease it’s stress to then open up room for positivity. Everyone is so very different but I think we can all agree self care is a great way to rest your mind. Now that can be as simple as throwing on a mask, watching tv, and tuning everything out or booking a facial and shutting the world out for an hour. Just take some time to shut your brain down and unplug! I also recently started meditating, I’m new to this so I’m not claiming to be an expert, but in the first couple sessions I already see a noticeable difference. Less tension in my jaw, neck, and shoulders that I wasn’t even aware of! Not to mention a much more balanced self, I still have waves of anxiety but I feel more in control of my emotions and reactions.
5) Use your support system! I know this can be tricky especially during social distancing but there are so many virtual ways to connect. As simple as just texting your bestie when you’re on the verge of a meltdown can honestly do wonders, I know from personal experience. Your friends and family want what’s best for you, let them help! Sometimes it can be hard to admit you’re struggling especially to those close to you, if that's the case, I am always here. I’d be happy to talk you through anything that may be troubling you and try and help to the best of my ability. Even if you just need to talk it out, sometimes just getting it out can do so much.
I hope this little tidbit reaches you when you need it and I hope you try some of my recommendations the next time you’re having a hard time. Life can be so hard sometimes and positivity can seem like an unattainable thing. Just remember that you control your thoughts and only you can flip the switch and create the mindset you want. Stay positive out there and I’ll see you back here in a couple weeks!
