Why Hand-Tied Threading Is the Future
The $4 Spool That Built My Business: Why I’ll Never Stop Talking About Threading
Let’s talk about threading. Specifically, hand-tied threading, which completely changed the trajectory of my career. I’ve mentioned it here and there, but this post is dedicated entirely to it—because if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t be where I am today without that tiny spool of thread.
Threading Wasn’t the Plan—But It Became the Foundation
When I went to beauty school, I was skincare-obsessed. Acne was my main focus, and I was ready to change lives (including my own). I hated the waxing portion. Like, hated it. Never in a million years did I think hair removal would become my path.
And yet—after getting licensed, I landed a job that taught me how to thread. Within three months, I was on the floor with clients. Within a year, I was booked and thriving.
It’s funny how the thing I never planned for became the thing that funded everything. Every training, every new treatment I added, every upgrade in my space—it was all funded by threading.
Why Hand-Tied Threading?
There are three main methods:
In-the-mouth threading (🚫 a no from me—unsanitary and outdated)
Around-the-neck threading (better, but hard on your body)
Hand-tied threading (💯 ergonomic, controlled, sanitary, and efficient)
Hand-tied threading gives you full control in your hands—not your mouth or your shoulders. It allows you to work both hands equally, creating sharp, clean lines quickly and comfortably. It also aligns more closely with other hair removal techniques like waxing or tweezing, so it integrates seamlessly for most artists.
And guess what? The overhead is almost nothing. A $4 spool of thread can generate hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars in revenue.
From Skeptic to Threading Evangelist
I started out thinking threading would be temporary. But the more I did it, the more I realized how skin-friendly, precise, and profitable it was. There’s no stickiness, no harsh post-care needed, and clients can walk out looking polished without irritation or downtime.
It became clear to me that threading wasn’t just a skill—it was an opportunity.
Teaching Threading Wasn’t the Plan Either—But It’s My Passion Now
When I first started offering threading education, there were zero training options. None. That’s why I created my Hand-Tied Threading Manual—to fill a major gap in our industry.
This manual isn’t just a PDF—it’s a hybrid resource filled with images, clickable video links, and breakdowns of my exact method. Whether you're a seasoned threader or just starting out, it’s designed to be accessible, supportive, and actually usable.
The Bottom Line
Threading built my business. It got me through the scary moments. It kept the income flowing. It taught me precision, speed, and trust in my craft. And it did all of that with almost no overhead.
If you’re curious about learning—or relearning—threading in a way that works with your body and your business, I’ve got you. And if you’ve ever underestimated the power of a $4 spool of thread, I hope this gives you a new perspective.
