What Even is Threading? (From a Threading Expert)

Let’s start from the beginning, who even looked at a thread and thought to pull hair out with it? We’ve traced threading back to Asia and India, it’s also the oldest form of hair removal. It was done a differently than I thread in my studio. I use the hand-tied method, as apposed to the original method. It was previously (and still today) done by making a thread loop and attaching it around the neck or held in the mouth.

Obviously, with more education we adapted the method to hand tied. This provides more control and proper sanitation. It is done by creating a loop with thread, yes the thread we use to sew. Once we have the loop we take our hands on each side and create twists in the center. (see video for better idea) Then, once properly trained, we use that loop to glide across the skin and catch unwanted hairs.

It seems like magic, I know! To me, it is, it causes less irritation and trauma to the hairs. How? The thread loop wraps around the hair and then with a quick movement the hair is pulled from the root. This makes for an even grasp on the hair and minimal irritation to your pore. Heavy irritation to the pore can cause issues with hair regrowth.

Have you ever been threaded before? How was your experience? Drop it in the comments below!
